Meet our Team

Blue Blenny founders, Amy and Moose, met in 2019 through marine conservation work in the Florida Keys, and quickly bonded over their love of cryptic fish, dry humor, and iced coffee. With backgrounds full of diving, travel, research, and education, they share a passion for inspiring others to explore and learn about the ocean. Somewhere between countless coffee dates and unforgettable dive adventures, their longtime dream became a reality and Blue Blenny was born! Read more about our team below.

Madalyn "Moose" Mussey

Founder & Trip Leader

Moose is a natural resource conservationist who grew up in the Midwest, far from the ocean. After graduating with a degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, emphasis in Natural Resource Management, she moved to the Florida Keys and spent nearly six years working with Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF). Through REEF, Moose connected people with the ocean through education, citizen science, field trips, and public programs that encouraged the community to get in the water and explore. She became passionate about showing others that the underwater world is for everyone. Creatively inclined, she blends painting, digital art, and hands-on crafts with her love of diving to share the ocean’s overlooked wonders. When she’s not diving or teaching about fish, you’ll find her chasing adventures - whether that’s roller derby, backpacking, rugby, birding, rodeo, or anything that pushes her outside her comfort zone.

Amy Lee

Founder & Trip Leader

Amy is a marine scientist and science communicator who fell in love with the ocean as a child in landlocked Pennsylvania. After earning degrees in marine science and public relations, she moved to the Florida Keys, where she spent over a decade with Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), leading citizen science dive trips and overseeing communications to support marine conservation initiatives. Amy’s work is motivated by a genuine obsession with fish - their behaviors, their habitats, and what they can teach us about the health of the ocean. Her curiosity and love of exploration eventually led her to technical and rebreather diving, driven by the access it offers to deeper species and ecosystems that most divers never get to see. When she's not underwater or planning the next amazing Blue Blenny expedition, you can find her at a Pilates or barre class or absorbed in her latest book.

Gary

Lead Keyboard Disruptor

Gary joined Moose's work from home team in October 2025 and has been an essential part of IT testing (unplugging devices), quality assurance analyzing (pushing items off shelves), and administrative coordinating (ensuring all pens are nowhere to be found).

Pinecone

barketing director & office potato

Amy adopted Pinecone in October 2017 and he’s been by her side as her loyal potato-kangaroo hybrid ever since. When he's not burrowed under a blanket (his preferred habitat), he can be found modeling his extensive sweater collection or begging for green beans (his favorite treat!)
